We source Molas straight from the Guna women of Guna Yala and commission the Guna Women's Cooperative to hand-sew each one onto upcycled denim — sustaining a community of 600 in Nalunega. Fair trade, slow fashion, natural cotton and eco-friendly packaging: a living tradition, worn by you and kept alive together.

About Guna Art

The Mola

Each piece has mola appliqués handcrafted by the Guna Indians of Guna Yala off the coast of Panama. The mola appliqué is a meticulous technique that involves layering and stitching multiple pieces of colorful fabric to create intricate designs that are embellished with touches of embroidery. The process requires precision, patience, and a keen eye for detail. Each mola can take between 2-4 weeks depending upon the size and design. Because every Mola is made by hand, every jacket is truly one of a kind — when it's gone, it's gone.

Our Purpose

Our History

On small, sandy islands ringed by the turquoise Caribbean, I first visited Guna Yala at twenty, while connecting with my Panamanian family. Over the years I returned again and again with humanitarian support — medicine, low-tech clean water solutions, and educational materials for the children — and along the way I fell in love with the Guna's culture, customs, and molas.Guna Soul grew out of that friendship. Today we partner with the Guna women to turn their Mola art into a living income — on their own terms, honoring a tradition that is theirs. Every piece you wear carries their story.
